Alex and Poppy.

Poppy and Alex.

The dynamic duo.

I love that People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry demonstrates that the best relationships often come out of friendships.

My husband and I started as friends. We’ve been married for six years now and together for almost nine, so we completely agree with that notion!

Poppy and Alex are likely my most favorite fictional couple from 2021 (so far).

By the way, at the end of this post, you will find my referral link for Book of the Month. I don’t earn any money from this, just a free book if you sign up 🙂

The Synopsis:

“Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.

Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven’t spoken since.

Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.

Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?”

My Review

People We Meet on Vacation is the perfect summer read no matter what your location is because this story will transport you to many places. Poppy and Alex’s witty banter back and forth will cause the reader to audibly giggle.

The story is told in a timeline that breaks up the past from the present. It is seamless and makes the reader want to keep reading to find out what is going to happen as well as what has happened in their past. This was a relatively quick read for me because I couldn’t put the book down! I think I got my husband a bit invested in the storyline as well. Whether he cared or not… I don’t care. I just wanted to tell him all the reasons I kept giggling or adding my commentary as if the characters could hear me.

People We Meet on Vacation isn’t ALL sunshine, there is some heartbreak in it. There were times I’d turn to Michael and say something along the lines of, “WHY can they not see how PERFECT they are for each other!?”

Don’t let that keep you from picking this one up, though… the ending will make you swoon!

People We Meet on Vacation earns five out of five paws from me. I simply love Emily Henry’s wit, humor, and ability to make incredible characters and stories for her readers to devour.

I received this book in my June Book of the Month box. I LOVE BOTM because as a reader with a neverending TBR list, I struggle to figure out what to read next. BOTM helps by narrowing down its monthly selection to five books. If you are interested in trying it out, click here to sign up!
